As a grandparent living in Minneapolis, I am still traumatized by the tragedy at Annunciation Catholic Church and School and the other gun violence tragedies that have occurred in our state, I am now strongly motivated to prevent gun violence. Gun violence prevention is a Minnesota issue that affects every community in our state. Other states have taken action to prevent gun violence and we should too!
As the Legislature considers gun violence prevention legislation this session, I am asking our state leaders to act with moral urgency and with the will of the majority of voters in this state to pass meaningful gun violence safety legislation including a ban on high capacity magazines and assault weapons.
We should protect children not guns. Our children deserve to feel safe in their schools and communities. We all do.
This is a moment for action, not delay.
Respectfully,
Angie Lillehei, West Maka Ska
