On June 10, 2026, the MPS School Board voted unanimously to pass Resolution 2026-0050, setting the timeline and approving the parameters for the next phase of MPS School Transformation.
Amanda Otero, member of Minnesota Families for Public Schools and Co-Executive Director of TakeAction Minnesota, released the following statement:
“Attracting and retaining students and families should be what the Transformation Plan is all about, and it’s a positive sign that the resolution passed tonight leads with increasing enrollment as the top priority. As families organizing for strong public schools, we’re excited to see that, and we look forward to engaging with MPS leadership’s specific plans to bring more families into the district.
"That said, it’s concerning to us that leadership is moving this plan ahead on a rushed timeline. Our families do not want a repeat of the Comprehensive District Design, which failed to adequately engage families and educators on major decisions, resulting in thousands of families leaving the district.
"For this plan to be successful, MPS must ensure families have time to engage directly on specific impacts to our school communities, including the implications of the minimum enrollment sizes approved by the board tonight. Any plan proposed by district leadership this fall should not include school closures or mergers on such short notice. Instead, we want to see how district leadership plans to invest in our schools to grow enrollment and make our schools the best option for families in our city.”
