ERIK BRANDT HONORED
The Minneapolis College of Art and Design (MCAD) announces that Professor Erik Brandt, chair of the Design Department, has been selected as the winner of the 2026 Kiel Week design competition, one of the world’s most prestigious honors in visual communication. Brandt’s buoy-inspired identity will represent Kiel Week 2026, the world’s largest annual sailing festival, attracting millions of visitors to Kiel, Germany. His design will appear across global platforms, from posters and flags to merchandise and digital media.
MN POC PRIDE MOVES INTO QUEERMUNITY
Minnesota People of Color LGBT Pride (MN POC Pride) is a new office tenant at Queermunity. MN POC Pride seeks to uplift and empower LGBTQ+ people of color across Minnesota. From organizing the annual Twin Cities Black Pride Festival to advancing equity, health, and inclusion through programs like their Early Intervention Services Outreach, their work strengthens the whole community. They will be launching new programming soon from their new location.
IN THE HEART OF THE BEAST RELOCATES
In the Heart of the Beast Puppet and Mask Theatre (HOBT) is excited to announce it found a new home at a storefront in the Lowry Hill East Neighborhood of Minneapolis. The future move comes after 38 years at The Avalon Theatre in South Minneapolis and creates more accessible spaces for art making and engagement for the community. Programming will begin on Nov. 1 at the new location (2411 Hennepin Ave). HOBT will continue to host community workshops, camps, artist gatherings, performances, storytime, and the puppet library, which is open on the first and third Saturday of every month from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
LYNNHURST PARK PROJECT
Construction has begun on playground improvements at Lynnhurst Park and will be largely complete this fall. However, due to delays in manufacturing and shipping, the climbing boulder will be installed in spring 2026. During construction, the playground and a portion of the parking lot west of the playground will be closed.
INDOOR PORCHFEST COMING NOV. 8
The Kingfield Neighborhood Association in partnership with Spirit Garage and Meraki are excited to announce the first-ever Kingfield Indoor PorchFest, happening Saturday, Nov. 8 from 4–9 p.m. at Meraki. It will feature 20–30 bands, solo acts, and groups.
GARAGE SALE SEPT. 20
Lynnhurst and Fulton neighborhoods will host their annual garage sale on Saturday, Sept. 20 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. (rain or shine). The area spans W. 46th - 54th St. and Lyndale - Penn Av. S. A downloadable map of addresses and descriptions of what neighbors are selling will be available Friday, Sept. 19 at Lynnhurst.org.
