This spring, the city improved nearly 100 rain gardens along Bryant Avenue from Lake Street to 50th Street. In May, crews finished weeding and mulching, and then planted over 13,000 rain garden plants. These gardens will help clean rainwater before it reaches lakes and rivers, and they support pollinators like bees and butterflies. More than 60 neighbors helped planted over 2,000 plants to finish the last seven rain gardens during an event on June 7.
Because of heavy rain this spring and early summer some gardens had erosion, and the city is adding sandbags to stabilize slopes and protect plants. The city will keep weeding, watering, and planting through the summer and asks that residents do not mow or work in the rain gardens but encourage them to throw away trash and pet waste properly to help keep them clean.
