The owner of the house on Aldrich Avenue missing a front foundation stepped out of his house, right on cue, as yet another reporter approached. He is used to the media attention by now.
Late Friday night, May 1, 2026, a Minnesota State Trooper collided with a suspect driving a stolen vehicle at Aldrich Avenue and 46th Street after multiple law enforcement vehicles tracked the suspect from Ramsey County to the East Harriet neighborhood.
Law enforcement said an official high-speed pursuit had been called off by the time of the crash. Ramsey County Sheriff live dashcam footage shows at least two law enforcement vehicles actively tracking the suspect through Kingfield and East Harriet streets, being guided by State Patrol helicopter navigators.
The suspect driver was driving 80 mph, according to reporting by FOX 9, when they blew through a stop sign on Aldrich Avenue and collided with a state trooper vehicle at 46th Street. The driver had narrowly missed colliding with a Ramsey County Sheriff's vehicle a block prior.
The high impact collision sent the vehicles in two different directions. The trooper’s car went sliding into Thomas Abresch’s house.
Abresch and his wife (who wants nothing to do with the roving media attention), were home at the time of the crash and were not physically harmed.
Abresch witnessed the state trooper get extracted from his vehicle. The trooper was taken to the hospital with serious injuries.
“This officer just basically hurt his shoulder, extremely bad, from what I understand,” Abresch said, standing in front of his house, the front elevated by a jack. “I'm amazed he walked away from that.”
The damaged house was built in 1911. The Abreschs’ insurance said the damage isn’t fixable, but it’s replaceable.
Abresch said 30 law enforcement vehicles were on the scene Friday night, but “quite a few” were redirected to Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park for a shooting that injured four people.
The full moon, Abresch said, may be a reason for all the activity on late Friday night.
“It was absolutely bright,” he said. “I was up until four in the morning.”
Law enforcement arrested and booked the suspect into Ramsey County Jail, according to reporting by Bring Me the News. Three passengers in the suspect’s vehicle were taken to the hospital with injuries.
