Meet Heather Anderson, who with her husband, Heath, opened their front porch for a variety of musical groups (including the one shown below) during the 2025 Uptown Porchfest. A gardener, Heather explained that her husband loves music and they value being a part of the community. They’ve lived in the Wedge for 10 years. “I like that no matter how I go to the grocery store I am not the person with the strangest outfit,” said Heather. “You never know what you’re going to see in Uptown. It’s just fun. It’s funky.” Heather operates a homework club at Fuller Park for students of color that meets on Thursdays, 3:30-5 p.m. and includes a meal. “I started it because as a White mom of Black children I got believed when Black moms didn’t. That’s been my lane in this district since I started,” she explained. Through the Advancing Equity Coalition she works to offer experiences for kids of color education-wise in the metro.
